What did you do?

Created a calendar for staff members and students to visualise their assessment workload i.e. when assignments are due, marking required

Who is involved?

Sara Marsham (Lecturer in School of Marine Science and Technology) and Alison Graham (Lecturer in School of Biology) with support from LTDS

How do you do it?

A Computer Science student was recruited through the Newcastle Work Experience scheme. Module data were supplied by staff and the software was created. Students were recruited in Semester 1 2015-2016 to trial the calendar, and focus groups were run in Semester 2 in order to identify areas for improvement before being launched officially in 2016-2017.

Why do you do it?

There were concerns that students were having too many assessments, and too many of the same type within a short space of time. This meant that students may not have received feedback in time to implement suggestions in their next assessment.

Does it work?

Students were very positive about the prototype software but identified a number of development priorities. Two new developers have been recruited through the Newcastle Work Experience scheme to implement these improvements before the 2016-17 academic year
