What did you do?

The School of Psychology offers an annual Careers Event and a series of Careers workshops throughout the academic year.

Who is involved?

The Careers Event and scheduled sessions involve employers in fields that typically hire Psychology graduate students as well as School alumni and representatives from Careers Service. Students from all stages are invited.

How do you do it?

A Careers Event is offered annually to students in all stages. The School invites representative employers from careers/fields that typically hire Psychology graduates as well as representatives from the Careers Service and alumni. The event is not aimed at career recruitment, but is a meet-and-greet where current students can talk without pressure to potential employers and gain confidence in communication and a sense of the transferable skills needed for specific careers. A series of workshops is offered throughout the year to perpetuate focus on Careers and resume building (e.g. a session on educational psychology and further study at Newcastle; a session for Stage 1-2 students on part-time work with students with disabilities). Representatives from Careers Service also come to speak to students during the year.

Why do you do it?

The Careers Event was first held to boost student awareness of the School’s attention to Careers/transferable skills topics.

Does it work?

Attendance at Careers events is generally quite high across all three stages of the programme.
