What did you do?

There is an internal conference for Stage 3 UG Geography students to present their dissertation research to Stage 2 students.

Who is involved?

The conference is organised as part of the Stage 3 Geography dissertation module, and held during Geography Community Tuesdays (see separate case study) as facilitated by Alex Jeffrey, Geography DPD.

How do you do it?

About a month before Stage 3 students are due to hand in their dissertations they are invited to present their research to Stage 2 students. Attendance is compulsory, and is supported by the provision of wine and nibbles.

Why do you do it?

To build a sense of community; to give Stage 3 students an opportunity to talk about their excellent work; to help Stage 2 students understand what is involved in doing a dissertation.

Does it work?

Alex said the anecdotal evidence is that both Stage 2 and Stage 3 students find it useful. The dissertation conference has become a compulsory, annual event in Geography.
