What did you do?

Martin Farr in History uses Twitter

Who is involved?

Martin Farr uses Twitter in his roles as Senior Tutor, Director of Undergraduate Studies, and Senior Lecturer.

How do you do it?

Martin tells students he has a Twitter account and then they can choose to follow his account. He tweets links to websites, newspapers, and links to TV or iPlayer programmes that are relevant to his teaching in Contemporary History. Follow him @martinjohnfarr.

Why do you do it?

Martin said his tweets are a way to send general messages or target individuals, and to share links he finds interesting. It is also a fluid way to communicate with students, in contrast to more rigid channels of communication.

Does it work?

Martin says students tweet replies to him, which has helped build a rapport with students. Conversational feedback from students has also been positive.
