Polyketide and Non-Ribosomal Peptide Synthesis
Many of the interesting antimicrobial compounds made by bacteria are derived from polyketides or amino acids. For this course a good understanding of how they are made is required. Christopher Walsh’s book: ANTIBIOTICS, actions, origins, resistance is great place to start (chapters 12 and 13) and is available in the library. Non-Ribosomal Peptide Sythetases in more detail in the material below. A previous student produced a learning resource for polyketide synthesis, and you can download it (N.B. it is a Flash swf file, you’ll need to set your browser to enable Flash) Polyketide Biosynthesis.
