Welcome to the CMB1005/BMN1004 Strand D - Gene Linkage Practical (P03)

The Pre-practical work
In this practical we are going develop our understanding of genetics by looking at inheritance and the relationship between genes.
This site is just like your lab book in that it is laid out in a set way with a number of pages (one following on from another) of tasks to complete. Each page of the "lab book" uses this yellow background to help you know when you are on a "lab book" page, as opposed to some other web page. There is additional help throughout the practical, and this may appear in several forms:
  1. as a box on the page with a grey background
  2. with a yellow ball next to a link to another page with a grey background and the words "Help Page" in grey on the background
  3. as link straight through to the School Wiki.
For example, the word genes in this sentence is a link to through to the wiki (a red ball means a link to an external site that you may need to use such as Canvas, for example).
Once you have worked through the pre-practical work, learnt how to use the necessary tools and completed the pre-practical assessment, you will then be able to complete the pages that constitute the "Hairy Tree Rat" practical itself. These will allow you to answer the post-practical assessment on Canvas
Text Layout
  1. Text that appears like this, with a bullet point at the start
  2. Provides a summary of the work/task you are about to do
  1. Text that looks like this.
  2. With a number at the start of each line.
  3. Are instructions to be followed, to help you complete the task.
Help
Besides the links that take you to help in the, such as this gene link, there may also be ...
in some places additional help will be given, and the text will appear as is seen here.
Or it may appear as a help link
Mini-tests
Dispersed throughout the practical there are a number of tests (see below) on a white background that you can do to gauge your understanding - these tests do not contribute to your final mark for the practical.

To use the test to gauge your understanding just answer the questions and click the Mark it! button.

In addition to these questions there are 5 pre-practical questions in a short quiz on Canvas which DO CONTRIBUTE to your mark. You can find these here
