The discovery of the role of airborne bacteria in fermentation by Louis Pasteur was used by Lister in the prevention of infection in surg. He started using &amp;amp;nbsp;carboxylic as an antiseptic to kill airborne bacteria and prevent their transmission into wounds. This significantly reduced the death rates cause by infection. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Listerine was also named after him due to his contribution towards antisepsis.&amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
