An ampere is the standard unit (SI unit) of an electric current. Practically the word ampere is shortened to amp. It is named&nbsp;&nbsp;after André-Marie Ampère (1775–1836), French mathematician and physicist. A current of one ampere is equal to a charge of one coulomb going past a point at a given second. It&nbsp;is also the current produced by the&nbsp;voltage (V) of one volt applied across a resistance (R) of one ohm.

This is a Wiki of Biomedical science definitions and information and has been produced by the students of the School of Biomedical Sciences at Newcastle University and at Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed).

The project was started in October 2010 and the pages have been created and edited by second year undergraduate students taking part in the Informatics Practical in CMB2005 (UK) and BMN2005 (Malaysia), and by first year students as part of the CMB1005 (UK) and&nbsp;BMN1004 (Malaysia) Practical Skills in Biomedical &amp; Biomolecular Sciences module.<br>
