DCTP (deoxycytidine 5' triphosphate) is one of four DNTPs required for [[DNA synthesis|DNA&nbsp;synthesis]], along with [[DATP|DATP]], [[DTTP|DTTP]]&nbsp;and [[DGTP|DGTP]]. DCTP has [[Pyrimidine|pyrimidine]] base bound, this means that the base has a single ring structure like that of DTTP. Furthermore DCTP is an essential component of [[PCR|PCR]] and [[DNA repliacation|DNA&nbsp;repliacation]] in many living organism: during which the two outer phosphate groups are cleaved and the remaining phosphate group forms a phosphodiester bond with the [[Deoxyribose|deoxyribose]] sugar on the adjacent [[Nucleotide|nucleotide]] to form the sugar-phosphate backbone<ref>Hartl D. and Ruvolo M.
