Ovaries are part of the female reproductive system, located in the pelvic region. There are two ovaries (sing. ovary), each connected to the [[Uterus|uterus]] via a&nbsp;[[Fallopian tubes|fallopian tube]]. The function of an ovary is to; produce the female [[Gamete|gamete]] - an [[Ovum|ovum]]&nbsp;and act as an [[Endocrine|endocrine]] gland. During puberty the hormon oestrogen is responsible for the development of the mammary glands as well as the development of the uterus. Oestrogen also plays a role in controlling the uterine lining during the menstrual cycle.
