&nbsp;PuC18 is a common [[Plasmid|bacterial plasmid]] for [[E. coli|E. Coli]]. Genetic engineering allows multiple sites to be inserted into the dsDNA loop such as the [[Gene|gene]] and [[Promoter|promoter]] for [[Β-galactosidase|beta-galactosidase]], lacZ. The lacZ gene contains a polylinker region that is 54 base pairs in length and contains 13 different [[Restriction site|restriction]] sites for [[Restriction Endonuclease|restriction endonucleases]] involved in procedures such as [[Recombination|DNA recombination]]<ref>reference</ref>.&nbsp; 

Furthermore, the gene for [[Ampicillin|ampicillin]] [[Antibiotic resistance|antibiotic resistance]], amp<sup>R</sup>, is also a major feature fo puC18 alongside the main [[Origin of replication|origin of replication]], ori<sup>C</sup>.
