There are two main types of sweat glands; [[Eccrine Sweat Gland|Eccrine]] and [[Apocrine Sweat Gland|Apocrine]], and their main function is to produce [[sweat|sweat]] which helps with cooling down. 

Eccrine sweat glands are the most abundant sweat glands in humans and play a crucial role in [[thermoregulation|thermoregulation]]. The long ductular portion of the sweat gland extends from the [[dermis|dermis]] to the surface on the skin, releasing [[hypotonic liquid|hypotonic liquid]] onto the surface of the skin. This is the result of reabsorption of [[sodium chloride|sodium chloride]] in the duct from the liquid expelled by the secretory portion of the gland.
