Chimeric is used to describe something made up of two part of different things joined together.

Chimeric proteins are made proteins are used when investgating protein interactions. A chimeric protein is made to see which part of the protein is chemically active; by removing part of it you get an idea of which part contains active sites [1].

Chimeric organisms can be created by genetic manipulation. It is produced in the first generation when creating genetically modified organisms. The genetically modified embryonic cells from one embryo are injected into a normal embryo and transplanted into the mother. The resultant female young will be chimeric [2].
