Pyrococcus furiosus is classed as a hyperthermophile due to it's ability to survive in extreme temperatures. The DNA polymerase of P. furiosus, is an enzyme that can be used as an alternative to Taq Polymerase (from the organism Thermus Aquaticus) during PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction).
