DNA ligase is an enzyme involved in DNA replication, as well as repairing DNA. It catalyses the phosphodiester between the 3' hydroxyl group and the 5' phosphate group of nucleotides in the DNA backbone. In particular, DNA ligase 1 joins Okazaki fragments formed on the lagging strand to form a complete DNA strand.
