In eukaryote cells, this step contributes towards the modification of pre-mRNA into mature mRNA. The poly (A) tail plays a crucial role in the nuclear export, translation and stability of mRNA. As the poly (A) tail shortens with time, the mRNA becomes less stable to the point where it is ezymatically degraded and begins to lose its functionality[1]
