The brain is the most vital organ in the body, without the brain, life would not be possible. It recieves infomation from many sources and processes them to produce appropriate reponses. It can be divided into three different components, the cerebral cortex, the midbrain and the brainstem.
The brain is located within the skull for protection, and is surrounded by a group of membranes called the meninges consisting of the dura mater, the arachnoid and the pia mater. It is also surrounded by Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) which provides more protection as it cushions the brains cortex.
