Chromosome abnormalities occur because of an error in cell division. There are two types of these; numerical and structural. Numerical abnormalities is when an organism is missing one chromosome from a pair of chromosomes; a condition called monosomy. In contrast, if an individual has more than two chromosomes as apposed to a pair, this is trisomy. [1][1]
