ProSite is a database of protein families and domains based on the observation that proteins can be grouped together based on similarities within their sequences, as proteins belonging to one family usually share 'functional attributes'. [1]. ProSite is often used within the field of Bioinformatics alongside other databases such as Blast and Pfam.
