Streptococcus pneumonia is a [[Gram-positive|gram-positive]] bacteria which are part of the genus Strepotococcus <ref>http://perspectivesinmedicine.cshlp.org/content/3/7/a010215.full</ref> . They are usually found in pairs ([[Diplococci|diplococci]]) and are an example of a highly invasive pathogen. It is the main cause of pneumonia and meningitis in children and in the elderly.
