A gametocyte is a eukaryotic germ cell, that has the ability to divide using the process of meiosis. There are two types of gametocytes, spermatocytes and oocytes.
Spermatocytes are male gametocytes and oocytes are female gametocytes.
Gametocytes are also defined as parasitic cells (Plasmodium Falciparum) found in eukaryotes in the bloodstream, transported by mosquitos as a form of vector. In this case, male gametocytes are referred to as microgametocytes whereas female gametocytes are referred to as macrogametocytes[1].
