Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) is a peptide hormone produced and released by the anterior pituitary gland. The release of the hormone causes the stimulation of the growth of ovarian follicles in the ovary before the release of an ovum. FSH is controlled by the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal-axis. The release of Gonadotrophin-releasing hormone stimulates the oroduction and release of FSH and also Luteinising Hormone (LH).
