Inorganic chemistry is a field of study related to compounds of non-biological origin, their synthesis and behaviour.  Such materials do not contain C-H bonds and are not carbon based (chemistry of carbon based compounds is defined as organic chemistry). Between the broad range of inognanic compounds, many are ionic compounds, salts made up of cations and anions held together by ionic bonds[1].
