this element is part of group 2 and has a atomic number of 12 and a standard atomic weight of 24.3. this means that it contains 12 protons in its atomic state and has more than one isotope. its isotopes have 12, 13 and 14 neutrons. it is commonly found in ion form of +2 after being oxidised. it is a shiny grey solid at room temperature and is considered an alkaline earth metal.
