 A type of lymphocyte which matures in the thymus and plays a vital role in cell mediated immunity


There are several types of T cell including:


  • Helper cell

Activates Tc cells and macrophages.

  • Cytotoxic cell

Attacks cancer or virus infected cells.

  • Memory cell


  • Regulatory cell


  • Natural Killer cell

Recognise major histocompatibility complexes (MHC). Can reconise some cancer cells and virus infected cells.
