 Ligand - gated ion channels

Ligand Gated ion channels are found in nerve cells and other cells such as: egg cells, muscle cells and plant cells. Ligand ion channels bind to extracellular small molecules (ligands) that allow the ion channel to open or close. The ligand binds to a specialised protein domain on the ion channel that contains channels that allow the ligands to slot in to place.[1]
