Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease, also known commonly as an 'STD'. It is caused by sexual contact with someone who has the syphilis bacterial infection. Treponema pallidum is the bacteria which causes this. Symptoms of syphilis can categorised into three different stages. Within the first two stages of symptoms is when the infection is most likely to be passed on.
