In Vertibrates the large intestine is the final part of the digestive system, and as the name suggests has a larer diameter than that of the small intestine. However it's structure is very similar; it is made of four layers of tissue, the mucosa, the submucosa, the muscularis and the serosa. Essentially, a layer of epithelium tissue (without villi), a layer of blood vessles, nerves and connective tissue, a muscle layer and then another epithelium layer[1]
