A transport ATPase is a transport channel or protein with the ability to hydrolyze an ATP molecule into its components of ADP and and inorganic phosphate [1]. This ability is the basis for the transport to take place as it is the energy released from the bonds in ATP that drives the ions through the channel and across the membrane. Examples of these types of molecule are the Na+/K+ pump, Ca2+ pump and the P-type pump.
