Oncology is a speciality in medicine which involves the study of the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Specialists in this area are known as oncologists[1][2].
There are three main sub branches of oncology:
Medical oncology
Medical oncology involves the treatment of cancer using chemotheraphy, targeted therapy and/or immunotherapy[6].
Surgical oncology
Surgical oncologists are required to surgically remove tumours and the surrounding tissues.They also conduct biopsies, which are essential in the diagnosis of cancer[7].
Radiation oncology
Radiation oncology involves the treatment of cancer using radiation therapy[8].
