Sweat glands

There are two main types of sweat glands; Eccrine and Apocrine, and their main function is to produce sweat which helps with cooling down.

Eccrine sweat glands are the most abundant sweat glands in humans and play a crucial role in thermoregulation. The long ductular portion of the sweat gland extends from the dermis to the surface on the skin, releasing hypotonic liquid onto the surface of the skin. This is the result of reabsorption of sodium chloride in the duct from the liquid expelled by the secretory portion of the gland.
