G-protein Coupled Receptor

 A seven transmembrane spanning receptor that interacts with G-proteins. G-proteins are composed of three subunits: alpha, beta and gamma. In the inactive state, the alpha subunit binds to GDP, and in the active state, GDP is released and GTP binds. The alpha subunit disocciates from the beta-gamma complex, and then both can activate separate effectors.
