Homo sapiens
Homo sapiens, the name for the species of Human beings currently residing on Earth, are also often referred to as anatomically modern humans who first made appearance on Earth in Africa around 200,000 years ago during which time Neanderthals were present in Europe and Homo erectus were present in Southeast Asia. Around 150,000 years ago, much of the Homo sapien population left Africa to occupy other regions of the world and as they advanced through Eurasia, they started to reside in the same areas as Neanderthals. [1] The closest extinct relatives to Homo sapiens are Homo heidelbergensis who are descendants of Homo erectus [2].
