Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
Overview: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is commonly found on the skin/noses of healthy people. It is harmless outside the body but can cause infections if it enter the body via e.g cuts, wounds etc.nters the body. It is resistant to the antibacterial activity of methicillin and other related antibiotics of the penicillin class.
Symptoms
Skin infections including:
- Abscesses
- Impetigo
- Boils
Bloodstream infections including:
- Septicaemia
- Osteomyelitis
- Abscesses
Treatment:
Antibiotics:
- Clindamycin
- Daptomycin
- Minocycline
Mild infections usually responds to mupirocin (Bactroban) medication
