An isotope is an atom of the same element with a different number of neutrons in the nucleus. Some common isotopes are carbon 13, chlorine 35 and chlorine 37. Also an isotope contains the same number of protons in the nucleus, therefore meaning its atomic number is the same. But on the other hand its mass number is different.
