Acyl chlorides

 In organic chemistry, an acyl chloride is a molecule with the functional group -COCl. Acyl chlorides are described as acid derivitives, that is, -Cl is in place of -OH that would be seen in carboxylic acid compounds. They do not dissolve in water because they react with it via anucleophillic-addition-elimination reaction to give its acid derivative and HCl. [1]
