 Organic molecules are essential for life on Earth. They are formed by a carbon backbone by which other atoms can attach. The simplest organic molecules are hydrocarbons which are often used in plastics and fuels. The four main groups of organic molecules are: lipids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids and proteins.
