Blood pressure is due to the pressure of blood flow exerted on the blood vessels. The blood vessels create resistance to the flow, therefore creating a pressure resistance. High blood pressure is called hypertension. Low blood pressure is called hypotension. The most common method of measuring blood pressure is to use a sphygmomanometer. It is recorded as systolic pressure over diastolic pressure and is written as 120/80mm Hg.
