An ionic bond describes the electrostatic force between two ions with an opposing charge. The bond forms between positive cations and negative anions. The difference in charge between these atoms then causes them to attract each other.

An example of ionic bond formation is the ionic lattice formed by solid saltsCite error: Invalid <ref> tag; name cannot be a simple integer. Use a descriptive title.
