Receptor

A receptor is a protein which recieves extracellular signals which causes a change in the cell via the action of intracellular signalling proteins on a target protein. They can be cell suface (transmembrane spanning) e.g. the insulin receptor, or intracellular e.g. steriod hormone receptor .
