Ovaries are part of the female reproductive system, located in the pelvic region. There are two ovaries (sing. ovary), each connected to the uterus via a fallopian tube. The function of an ovary is to; produce the female gamete - an ovum and act as an endocrine gland. Ovaries are stimulated once a month to release an ovum as part of the menstrual cycle

[1] The ovaries produce two main hormones - oestrogen and progesterone, these control menstruation and pregnancy.[2] [3]
