Oxygen debt

When muscles do excess work they often use up all available oxygen, and are forced to respire anaerobically. This causes pyruvate to accumulation of lactic acid. During recovery, the oxygen consumed by the muscle exceeds far more than the normal oxygen consumption. This extra oxygen consumed when the musle recovers is called Oxygen Debt.
