Oxygen debt

When muscles do excess work they often use up all available oxygen, and are forced to respire anaerobically. This causes pyruvate to convert tolactic acid, causing an accumulation . During recovery, the oxygen consumed by the muscle exceeds far more than the normal oxygen consumption. This extra oxygen consumed when the musle recovers is called Oxygen Debt.
