Metaphase II
Metaphase II occurs in the second phase of Meiosis in the overall divison of a germ cell to produce four non-identical cells, each with the haploid number of chromosomes. Metaphase II follows on from Prophase II in which the DNA has condenced and formed dyads, each consisting of a pair of sister chromatids. During Metaphase II, a single microtubule (spindle fibre) from each centriole is attached to a protein structure called a Kinetochore that is present on the centromere of the chromosomes. Each dyad is arranged at the equator of the cell, termed the Metaphase plate.
