Alzheimer's
Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disease. In its common form it is usually found in patients over the age of 60 who manifest the symptoms. [1] Symptoms include problems with cognitive function from the lines of emotional behaviour, judgement, language and perception. [1] The biochemistry of the disease shows that it is due to polypeptide accumulation in areas of the brain which in turn cause atrophy. [2] Mutations in the gene APP cause an increased production of the insoluble polypeptide Beta-Amyloid. [3] The mutation occurs when the amino acid valine is replaced with isoleucine at position 717.
