 A tetrad is another name for a bivalent. (Biology-online.org, 2014) It can be described as a pair of homologus chromosomes or 4 chromatids and can be found during Prophase 1 of Meiosis (Alberts et al. 2008: Glossary). 

In Pachytene in prophase 1 the chromosomes become more visible and can easily be seen as the tetrad or bivalent. (Homepages.gac.edu, 2014).
