 Aqueous is a term that is often used to describe a state of a solution which has been dissolved in the solvent of Water. Water has a polar nature which makes it an ideal solvent for hydrophillic (water-loving) molecules. If a solution is dissolved in water it is shown with the letters (aq) written in brackets after the chemical formula of the substance.  For example Ca2+(aq)
