Types of intestines:

The intestines refers to two separate organs:

  • the small intestine, which absorbs the majority of the nutrients from food[1]. The small intestines have intestinal villi on the lumen, to increase the surface area of the organ in order to absorb more nutrients from food.
  • the large intestine, which reabsorbs water from food waste and is involved in the production of faeces[2].
