Pravastatin (also known as Pravachol) is a type of statin which can be used to lower high cholesterol (LDL) and prevent cardiovascular disease.

It is a HMG-CoA inhibitor with a short half life of around two hours.

Prevastatin is recommended to be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise. It is sometimes used as an alternative to Atorvastatin as it has reportedly less side effects.

The initial dose for Pravastatin is 40mg taken once daily for LDL and myocardial infarction.
