The C-terminus is an end of a polypeptide chain, which consists of a free carboxyl (-COOH) group.

All amino acids have an amino (-NH₂) group and a carboxyl group, therefore a polypeptide chain will always have a N-terminus (free amine group end) and a C-terminus (free carboxyl group end).
